How North Group’s team approach inspired a seasoned agent’s success

Tyler Delaney has always believed in teams. He discovered what separates a good real estate agent from a truly remarkable one when he began working with North Group. Despite his successes going it alone, Tyler realized what he had been missing was the support of an entire team all equally invested in the outcomes for his clients.
Tyler’s commitment to his clients allowed him to build his own strong referral base center. Today he has the support of an entire team behind him to build lifetime relationships and create far more meaningful client experiences.
Tyler believes in controlling his own destiny and was drawn to entrepreneurship early in his life. He started his first business in university running a residential window cleaning franchise, which taught him about customer service as well as different neighborhoods and housing styles in Toronto. In hand with influence from his mother’s real estate experience, he realized it was the perfect opportunity to suit his entrepreneurial mindset. Now entering his 13th year in the industry, he looks back on the past three years as the smartest decision in his career.
“I started on my own for a year and didn't love it. It's a lonely business. So, I looked into joining an experienced team,” Tyler explains. “They took me under their wing and taught me a lot of what I know today and gave me the experience that I needed. Today I can pay it forward at North Group.”
Since joining North Group, Tyler continues to emphasize the importance of teamwork to provide higher value services to his clients. North Group shares his belief that to be successful as an agent, you have to create lifelong client relationships by providing an experience that is valuable to them. Because North Group is committed to creating experiences worth talking about, he has found the perfect team that shares his beliefs.
Tyler also loved the idea of sharing his experience with industry up-and-comers.
“I love that I get to give back to the agents who remind me of myself ten to twelve years ago.”
Why the Team at North Group?
When Tyler met North Group Founder Amy Youngren, he loved her energy and accomplishments. “North Group has long had a reputation for being quite forward-thinking. They received an innovator of the year award from Inman for their work in video and online marketing,” says Tyler. “I wanted to update my skills and offerings to my clients through technology and video specifically. I saw what North Group was doing, and I had an opportunity to speak with some of the members of the team and see the culture that was already being built even at that time in the early days of North Group.”
What really stood out, however, was Amy’s motivation to create an agency culture based on the philosophy that teams become better and stronger when they grow together.
Tyler now enjoys having access to organized systems and the shared resources of people who have toiled and worked hard to develop their own skills and experiences. “I've been able to utilize those systems to grow my business,” says Tyler. “Our Ops team has been instrumental in helping me to take that next step and become a more consistent agent in my business.”
METRICS FOR PERFORMANCE
Working on his own Tyler found he had difficulty gauging his performance against other people in the profession. “Often, there's no roadmap in real estate. It's very entrepreneurial and you have to sort of find your own way and how you want to run your business,” he explains. “Being on a team, you're surrounded by people who have unique perspectives, skill sets and experiences.” North Group’s performance provides metrics Tyler uses to measure his own results to facilitate his own development and become a better agent.
MENTORING AND SKILLS SHARING
North Group runs an annual business planning team meeting to talk about goals for the upcoming year. Amy uses her extensive industry connections to bring in motivational speakers to share their knowledge and motivate the team. Tyler is grateful for the valuable skills, development, and inspiration he gains through Amy’s vision. This year, Amy saw an opportunity to go bigger and share that vision with fellow agents. “Being the self-starter and the go-getter that she is, she was able to get some amazing sponsors and speakers for the event to inspire the entire team set bigger goals - together. It went off without a hitch. It was incredible to see some of the industry superstars who came out. It made me so proud to be a part of this amazing team”
Dubbed Bigger 2023, the first official conference was a major success. Tyler was thrilled to have the opportunity to connect with industry leaders. “Just chatting with a few different industry pros, I was just inspired to go BIGGER in my goals for 2023.”
Amy and North Group's support systems and belief in work-life balance, gave Tyler absolute confidence to step away to be with his new daughter. Those same systems and support from his team will allow him to hit the ground running as he returns to work in 2023.
“It has been a great reason to be on the team because having the team has allowed me to take that time away and still feel supported and connected to the industry.”

“There's way too many hats that a realtor has to wear as an individual. And you can imagine that as a client of a realtor, your access to that realtor’s time is limited if they are wearing all those hats and trying to manage all of those relationships and tasks simultaneously. A realtor, who is a part of a team has access to systems and methods to create more face-to-face time with their clients, make sure that their needs are being met, and that they are receiving a service that is valuable and successful in helping them accomplish their goals.”
